Do you stress about what you are going to wear for your engagement session? If that answer is yes, this guide is for you!
First off, these are things to stay away from:
- Baseball caps
- Loud patterns
- Colors that might flush your skin tone (like pink)
- Logos on shirts or pants
- Anything that is uncomfortable
When finding outfits, start with the woman. Typically the women care more about what they wear than the men. One thing to keep in mind is comfort. When you wear a tight skirt or dress, movement becomes limited and the focus goes more toward felling uncomfortable. Wear something that you feel comfortable and confident in. This could be a flowy dress or jeans with a cute basic top.
Now for the men. Basics are the best way to go with dressing your man. Base the colors off of your outfit. Black or blue jeans, or khakis are perfect for starters. Adding in a sweater for a fancy look or a nice t-shirt for a causal look will compliment your outfit perfectly.
Let’s talk about colors. Neutrals and earthy tones are the best way to go. Form a color palette with your partner that will work for you both.
Colors I suggest :
- Tan
- White
- Black
- Shades of blue
- Shades of green
Coordinate the outfits based on the color palette – do not match. Find the color you want to wear then coordinate your partners based on other colors in the palette.
Textures and patterns are great but can easily be overdone. Adding a jacket can help add texture and style to your outfit. It is a great way to add in a neutral color. Small patterns can be very fun in photos. It can help form your partners outfit with pulling out the colors from the pattern, too.
Keep in mind the location of the session. If the landscape has a lot of greens, you will want to wear more neutral tones. This allows you and your partner to pop in the photos. Same goes for a body of water as the landscape. You will want to stay away from blues that would match the water color.
